Where's the Roof??

Don't wake me up yet!! Emily is sleepy. But, most days, she wakes up happy. That blanket is her "booboo". How it got to be called that--long story. She takes corners or fringed pieces of it and rubs it across her nose or her lips. It's very entertaining.

Today was supposed to be roof day. So, where's the roof??? You can't believe a thing the builders tell you. The framing is all finished, though. It is exciting to walk through and imagine where we will put things and how we will decorate. I can't wait!! I am most excited to see my washer and dryer again!

Happy Birthday to you

Today is John's birthday!! He is XX years old today! Happy Birthday Dad!!! We celebrated his birthday at the beach. He got lots of good presents. He got to relax and read a book. I didn't even make him cook dinner. What more could he ask for?

A Day at the Beach

Our first day at the beach for this season. And it was COLD!! when we first got there. It was a beautiful sunny day, but the wind was very chilly until about 3:00. The water was freezing. But what fun! Emily Gayle was instructed not to get wet, but, like John said...."you just told a 7 year old to go play at the beach and not get wet". Take a look at those pink legs. She was an icecube. The second picture of Emily is her defrosting. And after she warmed up, what did she do??? Any guesses? She went right back down to the water and got wet again. It was a good day. The sun was out and the sky was beautiful. John and Ethan made their own pool at the water's edge. They looked like they were having a very good time. We stayed for about 3.5 hours and had to come home, but we can't wait to go back.
The only thing that didn't go our way was the sunburns. I used a spray sunblock, but the wind must have blown it all away before it got on John and Ethan's skin. Woweee, they are pink. I have a serious case of bad mommyitis.

More Walls

They are really working fast. And, sure enough, the roof will not be up by tomorrow. Tuesday is the new target day for the roof.

Walls

We have walls!! I can't believe it. Maybe we really will have a roof by Friday. The top picture is the front and the bottom picture is the back. In the top picture, the two windows on the right of the front door are in the dining room. The two windows on the left are in Emily's bedroom. In the bottom picture, the windows on the left are in the living room. There will be a porch right there. The windows on the right will be in the master bedroom. It's very exciting!
The boys are taking the SOL test this week. Monday through Thursday. SOL stands for standards of learning. Emily took a reading test last week. She can read on a 6th grade level. In the first grade. Emily's teacher is taking a few of her students out to eat on Monday. An award for "kindness to others and good manners". And Emily was invited to go. Way to go Emily!

Virginia Beach Aquarium

As promised, here are pictures of John, Ethan, and Emily at the Aquarium in Virginia Beach. What fun we had. On the way down, John, Ethan, and Emily played a fun game of Congress. Ethan was the House of Representatives, Emily was the President, and John served a double role of the Senate and the Supreme Court Judge. Ethan and John wrote laws. Ethan wanted to invade China. They sent their laws to Emily and she happily and quite giggly vetoed all of them. Ethan then informed her that he and John overrode her veto and sent troops to China without her permission. 50,000 Marines to be exact. John decided they were both crazy.
We had fun at the Aquarium. We got to watch otters eat their snacks. We couldn't believe how big some of those fish are. They look just like the fish that you see swimming in aquariums at home, but HUGE! The big attraction was the sharks. I took the picture with the sting ray just in time to see him swimming in front of the kids. They thought that was so cool. And the Indian heritage is such a big part of the history of this part of the country, there has to be a Powhatan hut everywhere we go.
We celebrated Mother's Day today since I am working tomorrow. And what a good day it was. I got great presents. New shoes and jewelry. My favorites! John had the kids tell me about a moment when me being their mommy made them feel really special. That was wonderful! I have the best kids in the world. They make me feel so special. They are so unique and wonderful. I love watching them grow.

House update

I guess you all are probably getting sick of hearing only about the house. It is exciting, but I know you probably want to see more pictures of the kids. We are going to the Aquarium tomorrow and maybe to the beach depending on the rain. So, there will be pictures of the kids this weekend. I spoke with the builder today. He told me that he thinks he will have the walls up by next Friday. I wouldn't expect that it could go up that fast. And.....I'll believe it when I see it.
You can see John and Ethan in the picture below perched on the wall. They are surveying their territory and searching for enemies. The lumber was delivered today for the flooring.
